Quinta La Vega. Gijón

De los proyectos que hemos realizado, sin duda el mejor conservado a lo largo de los años es Quinta La Vega.
La Autoridad Portuaria de Gijon, nos encargó a principios de 2003 la restauración de los jardines a la vez que se restauraba el edificio para su nuevo uso como edificio institucional del Puerto de Gijón.
La parcela se encontraba en un estado lamentable, con ejemplares históricos de arbolado en muy malas condiciones, en los limites sur y este y restos de plantaciones agrícolas de manzanos sobre la pradera existente al norte, de las que no se podíamos salvar nada.  El primer objetivo fue salvar el mayor numero de ejemplares de arbolado, centrados en la zona sur de la casa, diseñar las circulaciones y un espacio oculto de aparcamiento, segregar las vistas con las nuevas viviendas al norte mediante la creación de una ladera artificial y un bosque de abedules que manteniendo la privacidad de la parcela, no condenara a los nuevos vecinos a la visión de una muralla. El pequeño estanque junto a la casa, sirvió como referente para generar un cauce de agua que recorría la parcela de norte a sur y este a oeste, a la vez que recogía las aguas superficiales de las praderas, configurando un espacio de usos múltiples que pudiera usarse para eventos institucionales fuera de la edificación.
Como especies incorporadas junto al camino y en los nuevos espacios generados, utilizamos ginkgos, liquidambar, cerezos japoneses y abedules.

El uso de árido blanco, en los recorridos principales trataba de aportar luz y resaltar el verde dominante en un espacio junto al mar con ampliar horas de umbría.

BioDomo. Parque de las Ciencias de Granada.



En Diciembre de 2013, ganamos el concurso para el proyecto y ejecución del Biodomo del Parque de las Ciencias de Granada, junto a Coutant Aquariums y Ferrovial. Durante 2014 y 2015 desarrollamos el proyecto entre Granada y Francia. a mediados de 2015 iniciamos la obra, inaugurándose en Julio de 2016.
Hoy es una realidad con una media de mas de 1000 visitantes diarios.

Master Plan. Jardin Botánico Atlántico.

Este Plan Director fue desarrollado con Tau Noriega (Edificios), Ingenia-qed (Museos) e INDUROT (Conceptos Botánicos) (Universidad de Oviedo). Intentamos construir un nuevo concepto de Jardín Botánico, donde las colecciones de plantas fueron insertadas en su contexto ambiental. El proyecto paisajístico que desarrollamos fue un ejercicio para adaptar los Ecosistemas a las 25 Ha. de terreno, donde teníamos un jardín histórico y un antiguo bosque de robles de 500 años que queríamos conservar. El proceso de análisis fue muy importante para decidir el mejor lugar para cada Bioma porque queríamos hacer un recorrido didáctico que mostrara la vegetación del Atlántico Norte, desde el Polo Norte al Ecuador.

This Master Plan was developed with Tau Noriega (Buildings), Ingenia-qed (Museums) and INDUROT (Botanical Concepts) (University of Oviedo). We tried to build a new concept of Botanical Garden, where the plant collections were inserted in their environmental context. The landscape project we developed was an exercise to adapt the Ecosystems to the 25 hectares. of land, where we had a historic garden and an ancient 500 year old oak forest that we wanted to preserve. The analysis process was very important to decide the best place for each Biome because we wanted to do a didactic tour that showed the vegetation of the North Atlantic, from the North Pole to Ecuador.

Atlantic Botanical Garden. Charcoal structures in Oak Forest of The Tragamón.

One of the causes of our humanized forest, of our Oaks forests prunning, was the production of energy from the charcoal.
To show visitors this process, I designed an structure of cut steel and glass to display inside the pile of wood, prepared to produce coal.

Design elements to the garden depart from the same raw materials which constitute the common thread in the conceptual design of the whole: water, steel, stone and wood. Simply, no maintenance and ruin as driving idea for integration into the landscape. Thus the self watering pots steel, wood and IPN bridges, the viewpoints or the multiple uses module, are mission role without removed value space. We start from the notion that the designed landscape has to be one in which all plants, air, soil and water are go hand in hand to wrap the visitor.

Atlantic Botanical Garden. Viewpoint in Boreal Biome.


This structure is the viewpoint of the boreal over the river. Located at the end of Boreal will be in the future the transition element with the circumference bridge than will connect in the future the old World Biomes with the American exosystems, according to the original draft.

Atlantic Botanical Garden. Natural Fiber Pavilion.

An open Pavillion to show the importance of natural fiber in our lives.

Atlantic Botanical Garden. Coastal Cantabrian Surroundings. In project.

The Coastal Cantabrian Surroundings are one of the developing elements that lack to complete the Cantabrian Surroundings. Located next to the princiapal entrance to the west of the Hesperides Walk, so that the visitor penetrates in the garden through the near nature. They will allow to study exsitu the ecosystems and threatened plants of the dune areas, cliffs, salt marshes, peat bogs and leaving an area for the alpine endemic species. The presented/displayed planes are the original project that contemplates a duplicate of the building of access.  A place of the natural spaces of the County of Asturias to the north, in order to connect the Botanist with the natural parks within the Asturian Community. The connection between the zone of Cantabrian forests and the new coastal area considered with the connection in the North face of the river of a collection of Cantabrian endemic ferns that complete the existing ones. An gardening school is making an excellent work of preparation of the drainages and infrastructure, as well as the pasatubos for the second phase of the garden, that will allow to visualize the coastal zone with its dunes of three meters of height and the existing control systems of vegetation in the same. The cliff, with their clown system that allowed the visitor to see the movement of the water through a section of an active clown, the salt marsh and the sea with the game of waves and tides would have to be in the future extension project.

Atlantic Botanical Garden. Proposal of Parks and Gardens for Caribbean Greenhouse. More problem than solution.


This proposal want to build the Caribbean Biome in the place than in the Master Plan of the Botanical Garden we design the American Boreal Biome. Maybe we were in a mistake but is sure than a place can not get in equal conditions a proposal for an tropical area than for a cold climate collection. 

When we design an space the first step is to know its conditions. We did this studies ten years ago and decided than this was the best place for the Boreal area cause the low land, the river level and the shadow of the historic trees at the south give a very bad conditions to another botanic collection. After ten years we know than this is the place with more risk of frost in all the Botanical Garden and the freatic level is so high. There are other conditions because we putted the Tropical Biome in the north west corner of the land and this decision had relation with the balance of interest point and the infrastructure to support the heating needless of a greenhouse (the line of power is near of that corner and far from this new place). 
But if we forget the river level, the frost, the distance of power line, the impact of construction over the monument of historic Labor University and we considerate just the shadows of the trees of the Historical Garden at the south, we see than on 21 of December, when we need more light and heat for a tropical collection, the surround of the proposal greenhouse has not plain sun in all day, and the greenhouse just receive sun light from 11:00 to 16:00 hours. This was in a inform I sent one and half year ago to the head of Parks & Gardens and the Council  Woman of Environment but it look they haver more interest in the new building the want to make near the Greenhouse than in the conditions and the cost of maintenance of this greenhouse. I think than with this images the new do not need more coments.

El jardín americano ya hace historia

Tras diecisiete años de existencia, el jardín americano que diseñe para la Exposición Universal de Sevilla ha sido catalogado como Bien de Interes Cultural y Patrimonio Histórico Andaluz por el Gobierno Andaluz. Una distinción de debiera preservarlo y permitir su uso por los ciudadanos.
Aunque la relevancia para su catalogación, desde luego es por su contenido y lo que sepresentó el programa raices, indudablemente un espacio mal diseñado dificilmente hubiera contado con la aprobación para la inclusión en los Bienes del Patrimonio Andaluz y por tanto es un orgullo haber participado en el desarrollo de este proyecto.
Gracias a los promotores de la iniciativa y a Naturalia XXI por el empeño que siempre tuvieron en recuperar las zonas verdes de Expo´92 para los ciudadanos.
